✦ Synopsis

Quaternary ammonium salts immobilized onto poly(2-N,N-dimethylaminoethyl) methacrylate and a mixed network of 1 poly(oxyethylene) and poly(4-vinylpyridine) were prepared. These salts were characterized by an elemental analysis, IR, H 13 and C NMR spectroscopy. The catalytic activity of the polymeric complexes was studied in the epoxidation of styrene as a model reaction. The system under study consisted of a water-immiscible solvent, aqueous hydrogen peroxide and Na WO / H PO . The catalytic activity of the polymeric ammonium salts depends on the kind of support employed, as well 2 4 3 4

as on the length of hydrocarbon radicals and the nature of the anion. An increase in the selectivity of the reaction as compared to a system with non-immobilized salts is observed.

A great variety of olefinic substrates having aromatic, carbocyclic and aliphatic olefins are effectively and selectively oxidized with oxygen-rich molybdenum(VI) complexes, namely 5 and [PPh 4 ][Mo(O) 3 -(QO)] 6 (QOH = 8-quinolinol) as catalyst, NaHCO 3 as co-catalyst and H 2 O 2 as the terminal o
