✦ Synopsis

A specific enzymatic method was developed for the determinations of L-omithine and L-A'-pyrroline-S-carboxylate using two coupling enzymes, omithine aminotransferase and A*-pyrroline-Scarboxylate reductase. Using this method, omithine in rat tissues and human serum could be determined at the nanomole level. The fluorometric modification of this method was used for the assay of omithine in blood. In the omithine-load test in human subjects, diabetic patients showed an abnormally low peak and liver cirrhotic ones gave a delayed peak in their blood omithine response curve.
