✦ Synopsis

Solvent-induced frequency shifts of the riCO) modes of organometallic complexes of iron and chromium have been measured by FTIR spectroscopy. Bellamy-type plots showed a good correlation between the symmetric and antisymmetric v(CO) frequencies for different solvents. Shifts in the v(CO) modes of tricarbonyl(1,3-cyciohexadiene)iron(0) have been used for the quantitative determination of the composition of binary solvent mixtures and the method has been extended to ternary mixtures by the use of principal component analysis of v(CO) band profiles.
