โœฆ Synopsis

Linear and cyclic PDMS have a common value of Me, the molar mass between entanglements. This phenomenon can be understood by recasting the Graessley-Edwards approach to entanglements in linear polymers in terms of binary interactions. The resulting equations provide a correction to the Graessley-Edwards equations for Mc and Me, the entanglement molar mass from the plateau modulus, and define the conditions for common values of Mc and M e for linear and cyclic polymers of the same chain structure.
