Surface-enhanred Ramm spectroscopy has bern used IO slud\ the molecular inrrraclions or malononitrile v.llh copper elecrrodc surhces. The doubly degenerate CN srrerchmg rrcqurncy at 2263 cm -' is rrmoted when mnlononitrilc adsorbs on coppsr. T-o v(CN) bands are observed at 2096 and 2204 cm-' a~ -0 6 V(SCE). The result shows that only one CN group is _;-coordmnrcd uilh Cu. whxh conlnburss IO the obserred large sh1rl (-167 cm-' ) in v(CN). The orher CN group is no1 coordmdlcd to Ihe melal surrace
