✦ Synopsis
For catalytic hydrogenation and oxidation reactions in protic solvents on a conducting catalyst the mass transfer can be enhanced due to electrochemical transport of ions. Numerical simulations of a hydrogenation reaction on a suspended catalyst particle show that this transport can increase the overall reaction rate more than an order of magnitude. The selectivity and the dynamic behaviour of the catalyst are also affected by electrochemical phenomena.
