A new automated flow-mjectlon method for the determmatlon of the total polyphenol index m wmes based on the Folm-Clocalteu reaction m 0 5 mol I-' NaOH IS proposed The method allows different types of wme to be analysed automatically at a rate of 60 h-' by using gallc or tanmc acid as standard By applymg the proposed method to real samples of white, rest and red wmes, then total polyphenol mdlces were determined with a higher reproduclblhty (R S D = 0 8%) than that afforded by earlier methods, whatever the ddutlon used The method IS highly tolerant towards the most common Interferences that occur wth its batch counterpart (viz SO,, reducmg sugars and ascorbic acid) and IS subject to a smaller synergistic effect from SO,, reducing sugars and o-hydroxypolyphenols
