Artificial Feldspars.--M. Hautefeuille produces tridymite, orthoclase and triclinic feldspars, by exposing a mixture of silex and alumina, in presence of acid tungstate of potash, to a temperature between 900 ยฐ and 1000 ยฐ . If the potassa and alumina have been properly proportioned, the tridymite and triclinic fehlspars soon disappear, and their elements increase the crystals of orthoelase.
After fifteen to twenty (lays' heating, these crystals remain alone, and they may he easily separated, since the tungstate is soluble in boiling water. If soda is substituted for potash, the crystals are of albite. The committee to which M. Hautefeuille's paper was submitted (MM. tI.
