Engineering Research Centres is a reference book published to satisfy the industrial, official and academic information needs of the engineering community, and those who need to follow engineering developments such as government administrators, and market researchers.
The directory provides over 5,000 profiles of research, development and design laboratories or groups from the public, private and academic sectors active in engineering. Engineering in this publication is taken to include aeronautics, civil engineering, computer theory and software, cybernetics, electronnics, electrical and mechanical engineering, industrial engineering, and transportation including road, rail and ship technology. Standards and metrology units are included as are laboratories which are primarily concerned with testing provided that such work is carded out for outside companies.
The publication has two indexes. The titles of establishments index which allows the reader to locate entries for laboratories or companies. The subject index based on the British Standards Institutes ROOT Thesaurus, lists about 2000 R & D terms and directs to the reader specifically where a particular activity is carded out.
