✦ Synopsis

Each of the three authors of this volume has contributed a section on his particular area of specialization in the field of engineering communications. In the opening section, A. B. Rosenstein surveys the important concepts of information theory, relates them to the modern theory of engineering design and employs them in the construction of the theoretical framework of communication. In the second section, R. R. Rathbone demonstrates how information theory can aid in the practical achievement of a more effective spoken and written communication. The final section, by W. F. Schneere, analyzes the principles of technical drawing and shows how the application of information theory can improve the communicating efficiency of graphic representations.
