✦ Synopsis
The emission spectrum of the fust positive bands of.N? from the l\lz(B31T,, o',G 5) states was observed in the akqlow of a p&d discharge in o xenon-nitrogen mistura. The time dependence of the intensity was measured 'and simultaneously, population decay curves of the metastable Xe(3F2) level and the neighbowing Xef3P1) resoiwnt level were obtained. The results clearly showed that &citation c? the Nz(B 3Ag, u' ;S 5) states by collisional : transfer involved metastable Xe(IPz) atoms and not Xe(3P1) atoms. Moreover, an electron heating experiment WK carried out to provide reIative changes of the Xef3P2) and XI?(~P~) populations; the relative variation obseived .in the intensity ofthe first positive bands ofNz confirmed the results mentioned above. Possible reactionswhich 'could populate strongly the vibrational u' = 5 Ievel of the Nz(B3iQ srate are discussed. '1. In&xiuction
