β¦ Synopsis
The problem of vibrational relaxation of polyatomic molecules undergoing vibrational energy transfer with each other and with a heat bath has been treated. The results of numerical integration of the nonlinear differential equations describing the model have been presented.
Customarily it is assumed that critical coordinates in the various theories of chemical kinetics are independent of temperature. This is, in fact, an incorrect assumption; this is illustrated by some simple, readily analyzed cases.
A weakly-coupled oscillators model for intramolecular energy transfer is considered in terms of Markov processes. Applications to the decomposition of vibrationally "hot" molecules are indicated. (1' 2~3,4).
