Energy transfer from C?' to Nd3+ in mullite glasses and glass-ceramics was investigated at 10 and 300 K. Nd3+ and Cr)+ emissions were observed using time-resolved laser spectroscopy Ln the spectral range 640 to 880 nm, and the energy-transfer mechanism was determined. Further information on the dynamic processes was obtained from the decay rates of 2E and 'T, states of C? and those of the 4F,,2 level of Nd3+ in glasses and glass-ceramics.
