Abstract

The energies of bound charge carriers and Frenkel excitons in one‐ and two‐dimensional molecular crystals are calculated in the nearest‐neighbour approximation. The band width of the bound states is found to decrease with increasing interaction potential between these particles. The formulae for the light absorption coefficients with excitation of these states are derived. In the case of narrow electron bands and high temperatures it is shown, that the absorption edge is described by the Urbach rule, and the corresponding peaks in the band have van Hove nature.
