โฆ Synopsis
The theory of G a m o w and T e 1 1 e r about the energy liberation in red giants is criticized. It is shown, that the rate of evolution predicted by this theory is in contradiction with the secular x~ariations in the periods of Cepheids. The reverse conclusions, at which G r e e n f i e 1 d arrived, are shown to be erroneous. The tremendous energy output" of the red giants may probably be explained only, if we accept the hypothesis of superdense cores and highly inflated envelopes. So homology transformations are invalid in this case. Some suggestions are made with respect to possibilities for further research.
