The third harmonic from a Nd : YAG laser is triplet in xenon. The resultant vacuum ultraviolet (VUV) radiation (118 nm) is combined with a visible photon from a dye laser to excite two-photon transitions in Ar and Kr. This method can be used to study many gaseous molecules with transition energies b
