โฆ Synopsis
Fast (4 keV) PN+ and P: cations formed from 100 eV electroionised phosphonitrilic chloride and phosphorus respectively, were induced to undergo sequential single-electron-capture reactions with CS2, and the undissociated product anions were translational-energy analysed. The spectra showed that cations were present in both the X and A doublet states and also in one or more quartet states. In PN+, the relative term energy of the quartet state (or group of states) was 2.74f0.20 eV (%+ and %), while in P: , two quartet states (or groups) were found with relative term energies of I .96 ? 0.15 eV ( 42, and 411s) and 2.88 + 0.20 eV (4AU). These values are in agreement with recent theoretical calculations. The electron affinity of PN was found to be 0.32 + 0.20 eV.
