โฆ Synopsis
Surgical portocaval shunts have been used in smallfor-size living donor liver transplants, 1-4 but they may carry the risk of persistent hepatic encephalopathy. 5 As an alternative to surgical takedown, the endovascular closure of a portocaval anastomosis has been reported to reverse encephalopathy with a covered aortic endograft deployed in the inferior vena cava (IVC). 6 Here we demonstrate the feasibility and effectiveness of a minimally invasive endovascular technique for portocaval shunt closure using an Amplatzer muscular ventricular septal defect (VSD) occluder device.
