โฆ Synopsis
Endoscopic visualization of embolization coil in a duodenal ulcer
An 82-year-old woman was admitted with massive hematemesis and melena. After stabilization, emergency upper endoscopy was performed. Significant active bleeding was encountered in the duodenum and prevented the source of bleeding from being identified. Mesenteric angiography was performed urgently. Extravasation was noted in the region of the gastroduodenal artery (A), and the gastroduodenal artery was embolized with coils (B). The patient underwent endoscopy again the next day, and a large duodenal ulcer was seen with the coil in the center of the ulcer (C). No further bleeding occurred, and the patient was discharged and started on proton-pump inhibitor therapy. At 6 months after discharge, the patient reported there had been no further bleeding.
