This study examines the activity of hippocampal CA 1 pyramidal neurons during conditioned fear stress (CFS)-induced freezing behavior in unanesthetized, unrestrained rats. The firing frequency of hippocampal CA 1 pyramidal neurons was significantly decreased when conditioned rats exhibited freezing
