Empirical relations are presented that allow a simple evaluation of the ground-state radial and angular expectation values from experimental structural parameters of van der Waals complexes. Measured dipole moments of the complexes are used to obtain upper-bound estimates for molecular octopole moments Q,(ClF) = 11 DA*, Q,(HBr) = 16 DA'.
