✦ Synopsis

The luminescence of dithiooxamide, N,N'-dimethyIdithiuoxamide and tetramethyldithiooxamide has been investi-F . ted. The fist.two compounds exhibit an intense luminescence at 77Β°K (T Z= lo-' set) which is assigned as a rnnt + r,, a weak lon&waveIength absorption (emax = 1 Q hj-' cm-' ) is assigned as3r,_,+ L-' r,.

The tetramethyl derivative does not emit, an abse~at~on consistent with its severely-twisted canform~tian, with its consequent description as a composite of two "nezrly-isolated thioacetamide units", and with the nonemissivity of such thioacetamide entities. ', 'Srates Atomic Energy CommS?n-Biology Branch and the short-hved {r = 3.0 X 10J set) emission-of a crystal oft 'Louisiana state Univqisity.
