✦ Synopsis

Picosecond lifetime and depolartiation studies of '(n, n*) emission from trans-azobenzene ïndicate that ffuorescence ccm-. tributes substanties to the emission decay pattern. The 1 (n, n*) state's decay time is ~25 ps, in contrast to the nanosecond Iifetïmes exhlbited by fIuorescing singlet states in stilbenes and styrenes.
