β¦ Synopsis
This paper discusses the results and development of an emission model based on the mode matching method for the description of circular cross-section laterally confined microcavities. General insights into the spectral and angular diffraction properties of the underlying modes of these structures are presented. Following this, the so-called spontaneous emission factors for individual modes are examined as a function of gain tuning, gain linewidth and post diameter and contrasted with an approximate formula. The work highlights two important features, namely the selection of the transverse emission mode and the role of leaky modes and examines their influences on both the spontaneous emission factor and radiation into air.
