✦ Synopsis
The eminent Romanian scientist Professor Emil Chifu died on he developed theories and experimental methods and techniques based on his original ideas. April 1, 1997, at age 72. A great physicochemist and a worldrenowned scientist, he was one of the founders of the modern Professor Chifu made essential contributions to the teaching of colloid science with his book ''Colloidal Chemistry,'' published science of colloids, surfaces, and membrane phenomena.
In 1949, after graduating from the University of Cluj-Napoca, in 1969. Recently, he finished a fully revised and updated edition of this book (in press), including his standard work on modern with a major in physical chemistry, he began his scientific and academic career as a lecturer in the Department of Physical Chem-surface science and new approaches to the thermodynamics and hydrodynamics of thin films. This new edition features several new istry at the State University of New York, Buffalo. He soon established a research program on the stability of thin films and their chapters on extended treatment of films at liquid-air and liquidliquid interfaces, molecular interactions in mixtures of surfactants, properties under microgravity conditions and the behavior of liquids under the action of surface tension gradients caused by various micellization processes, macromolecular films, and optical properties of Langmuir-Blodgett films, which reflect his pioneering work surfactants or by temperature differences. Concurrently, from 1951 to 1953, Emil Chifu worked in the Institute of Chemistry, a branch in the field. Unfortunately, he did not live to see the publication of this updated and extended Colloidal Chemistry edition. of the Romanian Academy of Sciences in Cluj-Napoca. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Cluj-Napoca.
Professor Chifu was awarded First Prize in 1967 for his outstanding scientific achievements in the field of chemistry and appointed From 1970 to 1991, Emil Chifu was Professor and Head of the Department of Physical Chemistry at his alma mater, where he Distinguished Professor in 1980 by the Romanian Ministry of Education. In 1983, he was awarded the prestigious Gheorghe Spacu continued his scientific activity until the last days of his life. There, he founded a research group which worked on the physical chemis-Prize by the Academy of Sciences in Romania for his theory and novel experiments on colloidal systems and thin films. Also, he try of colloidal dispersions, surface chemistry, membrane, and interfacial phenomena.
