โฆ Synopsis
Emergence and Equilibrium C oncepts in the statistical physics of Clausius, Maxwell, Boltzmann, and Gibbs have surprising parallels in the discipline of emergence. Statistical mechanics deals with ensembles of interacting agents, which may be atoms and molecules in the simplest cases or may be entire systems in the 6N-dimensional phase spaces associated with the Gibbsian approach. The interaction rules may be nonlinear, although in thoroughly studied cases of perfect gases the nonlinearity is not required. The problems are viewed at two hierarchical levels: the macroscopic, associated with thermodynamics, and the microscopic, associated with molecular mechanics.
