The phase stabilization of the (Bi 1.6؉y Pb 0.4 )Sr 2؊x Ca 2؉x Cu 3 O z system has been studied in the composition ranges 04 4x4 40.25 and 04 4y4 40.4 by X-ray powder diffraction, magnetic susceptibility, and electrical resistivity measurements. The transformation from Bi 2 Sr 2 CaCu 2 O 8 to Bi 2 S
