✦ Synopsis
When Elizabeth Bennet and her sisters find themselves waging a ladylike war against the manipulations of their father, Mr Thomas Bennet, and the deceits of Mr Fitzwilliam Darcy, their moves and counter-moves are made with spirit and a dash of desperation. Mr Bennet considers it his right to choose husbands for his daughters, and he is determined to make matches that will enhance his prestige. Mr Darcy despises the scheming Mr Bennet, distrusts his daughters, and disdains the entire family as beneath him. To protect his friend Charles Bingley and himself from unsuitable matches, he engages in deceptions that were once abhorrent to him.
Yet the heart wants what it wants, and Darcy’s heart wants Elizabeth. He is shocked to discover she considers both himself and her father to be her adversaries—men who manipulate others for their own ends. After she tells Darcy he is the last man in the world she would marry and Georgiana declares her disappointment in the man she had considered the best of brothers, he is forced to examine his presumptions about his society, himself, and those women worthy of being pleased. So, when Mr Bennet’s machinations result in a life-threatening abduction, Darcy takes action, joining in the rescue. Relying on wit and “bottom”, the daughters of Longbourn—with a little help from some unexpected allies—collaborate to create their own happy endings.
