Es constatable la vertiente pseudomística que dio a Amado Nervo su carácter diferencial en la bandera modernista, pues frente al paganismo militante y rozagante de Rubén, se contrapone el cristianismo descarnado de Nervo, con lo que la poesía del mejicano se carga de la sugerente expresividad de los contenidos y, sobre todo, del léxico integrado en campos semánticos de las religiones espiritualistas, de la liturgia cristiano-católica y de los códigos místicos en una gran cantidad de poemas, si bien hemos de recordar y reconocer que aparece siempre desde una perspectiva inmediata, superficial y sin rozar siquiera la complejidad de fondo que todo ello lleva consigo. Pero es incuestionable también que supo lograr un sincretismo, por lo que se refiere a la vestimenta formal, entre la brillantez del modernismo y un matiz especial de misticismo de raíz católica en composiciones que muestran algunos momentos de cierta delicadeza poética.
