✦ Synopsis
The direct differential method is described and applied to the sensitivity analysis of the state, with respect to the inlet state and the design, material and operating parameters of chemical reactor. The reactor behaviour is described by a quasihomogeneous bidimensional mathematical model. We refer to a chemical reactor for ethylbenzene dehydrogenation.

The use of Lyapunov exponents to calculate the parametric sensitivity of batch reactors is described and compared with existing methods. Even though the results are quite similar the advantages of this new method reside in its simplicity and in the possibility that Lyapunov exponents can be computed
