β¦ Synopsis
Particle Induced X-ray Emission (PIXE) has been used to determine the average elemental concentrations of various size fractions in the particulate phase of urban stormwater derived from areas with different land-use characteristics. Water samples were filtered through Nucleopore polycarbonate filter papers to separate particulate in the 0.4-60 lm and 60-250 lm fractions and the dry weights determined.

A Gent PM10 air sampler with stacked Γlter units was used to collect size-fractionated aerosol samples in Lisbon between October 1993 and January 1995. Sampling was made on a twice-a-week basis (one weekend day and one midweek day). The Γlter loads were measured by gravimetry and elemental analyses
