Abstract
The spectroscopic properties and the basicity of p‐trimethylammonium‐phenylazo‐azulene support the conclusions drawn in a previous paper concerning the influence of −M and +M active substituents on the spectrum of phenyl‐azo‐azulene. They also verify the structure previously assigned to the protonated p‐dimethylamino‐phenyl‐azo‐azulene. A σ~p~‐value of 0·66 ± 0·03 for the trimethylammonium substituent has been obtained.
