Electron Microscopic Study o/the Palmar Aponeurosis by Dupuytren's Contracture
Summary. The authors have been examined electron-microscopically 15 nodes from patients with Dupuytrens contracture. The changes in the cell elements and in the arrangement of collagen fibrils are established. Three groups of cells are described: the first type of cells have large cisternae of endoplasmic reticulum, damaged or destructed mitochondria and many lysosomes; the second type of cells is characterized with vary good developed endoplasmic rcticulum, scattered lysosomes and normal mitochondria; the third type of cells possesses weekly developed endoplasmic reticulum, the normal mitochondria and lysosomes. Between these cells the authors describe non-differentiated type of cells with rough endoplasmic reticulum, which embraces large spaces filled with a fine granulated substance.
The authors discuss ultrastructurM changes of cells, and end that the nodes in Dupuytrens contracture arc connective-tissue formations in which the plastic processes exist together with the destructive processes.
