✦ Synopsis

This book should be a theoretical and practical introduction to the field of electron microscopy for cell and molecular biology. After a short introduction the following two chapters are dedicated to preparation and observation techniques. The methods discussed concern studies of structural and functional aspects of cells. Another chapter deals with the application of electron microscopy in the molecular biology. The authors show not only a list of methods but also possible connections and combinations between the different methods. They describe both standard and new methods, e.g. immunocytochemical methods and structural analysis of cells and molecules. The section of selected instructions and an extensive bibliography represent useful sources for beginners but also for experienced scientists. Schemes of several techniques are given, numerous micrographs illustrate some of the results and the possibilities of the discussed methods. This book can be recommended to all scientists interested in electron microscopy for cell, medical, and molecular biology.
