Formulas of a general and explicit nature are obtained for electroproduction of any polarized hadron state from a polarized target with a polarized beam. The one-photon exchange approximation is used and the final formulas are given in terms of virtual photon helicities. Formulas are derived for cross sections and for final state spin density matrix elements. The latter enable one to construct any final state polarization parameter or to write out any final state decay distribution with minimal effort. Exclusive and semiinclusive reactions are discussed on an equal basis. All particle spins are assumed to be polarized. Specialization is made to any case of experimental interest by summing over unwanted spin indices. It is hoped that such a general formulation of electroproduction kinematics will be of use in the planning of experiments with polarized beams and targets.
