โฆ Synopsis
Electroporation Protocols for Microorganisms is the first complete guide to the electroporation of nearly all microorganisms of importance used in biological and biomedical research. It includes reproducible protocols for diverse bacterial, fungal, and protist species-many of which are important in human disease-as well as literature references to electroporation protocols for related species. The contributors also discuss electroporation theory and instrumentation, making it possible to develop new protocols or modify existing ones, and they provide extensive details about culturing and storing many species in a manner designed to optimize electroporation efficiency.
Electroporation Protocols for Microorganisms is an indispensable resource for molecular geneticists working directly with microorganisms and for those who employ microorganisms to prepare materials for later introduction into higher organisms, such as plants and animals. Two companion volumes will follow: Plant Cell Electroporation and Electrofusion Protocols and Animal Cell Electroporation and Electrofusion Protocols.

This book provides comprehensive coverage of the theory and practice of electroporation. The main emphasis is on techniques for introduction of DNA into a wide variety of microorganisms. The chapters are in general well written and up-to-date. There is some overlap between individual chapters, but this is understandable (and in fact essential) given the nature of the book. Each chapter stands on its own to describe conditions for electroporation for a given group of microorganisms. The purpose is to describe the theory of electroporation and provide protocols for the use of electroporation with diverse microorganisms. This is an important text because electroporation is widely used to introduce DNA into microbial cells. This book is undoubtedly the most comprehensive coverage of electroporation of microbial cells available. The book is primarily intended for research scientists who require a means to transfer DNA, RNA, or other molecules into microbial cells. This text will be a welcome addition to the library of anyone working in microbial genetics. The illustrations, index and table of contents are all more than adequate. The only fault (albeit a minor fault) with the book is the number of typographical errors. This is the most comprehensive treatment available on the topic of electroporation of microorganisms The introductory chapters describe the theory and instrumentation of electroporation. The remaining chapters describe protocols for introduction of DNA or other molecules into cells of diverse microorganisms by electroporation. This book will be a useful resource for scientists working on diverse aspects of microbial genetics.
