✦ Synopsis
%uys with pipe wrenches" is what leaps w the mind of many when the subject of LDC maintenance arises. You know, like the Gas House Gang. But today these personnel are not necessarily guys, nor do they always w e pipe wrenches. Consumer's Power, a Michigan combined utility with about a million r e s i & W gas customers and a little over a thousand gas employees, found that with new technology a larger gas training facility was necessaty and opened such a facility in Flint. The facility not only keeps the company's technicians well-versed in maintaining the company's gas lines but also has enabled the company to once again expand its market into appliance repair. To find out more about the company's training strategy, in late August I talked with Gary F. Ewert, gas operations training superviror, who is in change of the facility, the cost of which is part of the rate base.
