✦ Synopsis

The basics of the theory of electric energy conversion by modern means of power electronics are described, and converters used in power supply devices and electric rolling stock of railway, urban electric transport and metro are considered. The principles of construction and circuit implementation of rectifiers, inverters, frequency converters, pulse converters and other types of power electronics are given. The basics of design are given, and the causes and consequences of emergency modes during operation of traction semiconductor converters are considered. It is intended for students of railway transport universities studying in the specialty "Train traffic management systems "(specialization "Railway Power supply"), and can be useful for a wide range of specialists involved in the development and operation of power supply devices and electric rolling stock.
