The X-ray photoemission core level spectra of TlCr 5 Se 8 and Tl 0 2 Cr 5 Se 8 de5nitely exclude the oxidation of Tl(I) to Tl(III) when Tl is removed using a topotactic redox reaction between TlCr 5 Se 8 and bromine in acetonitrile.
