The relative sensitivities of oscillator strengths and transition energies in an electronic band system to solvent and substitutent perturbations have allowed the assignment of the electronic bands in pentachloroaniline, pentafluoroaniline, 4-chloroaniline and aniline. While the 'Lb, 'L, and 'I&, tr
