The laser excited so-called "fluorescence" background from MgO and q-Al203 surfaces was studied. Surface hydroxide ions are found to be responsible for this phenomenon, since a clear correlation between background intensity and hydrosyl group density of the surface is observed. The so-called "fluor

✦ Synopsis
Electronic Raman scattering spectra for cuprate superconductors, La2-~SrxCuO4, and prototypical strongly correlated metals, Srl_~La~TiOa, were investigated and compared with each other. All the spectra can be reproduced by "extended" relaxational function with w-dependent F. Electron correlation effect leads to strong w dependence of F, which produces the spectral weight of X"(w) up to the high energy region. We also found anomalous symmetry dependence of the spectral intensity for La2-~Sr~CuO4 in the lightly doped region.
