โฆ Synopsis
Emission from electronically excited ZnH molecules in the A211,,z1,1 states could be observed when ground-state Zn was excited to the 43P, state in the presence of a small amount of HI. Temporal profiles of the emission fmm Zn(4 'P, ) and ZnH(A '11,,2,,,2) after pulsed excitations were measured. The temporal profiles were consistent with a reaction mechanism in which excited ZnH molecules are formed in the electronic energy transfer between Zn(43PI) and ZnH(X ?). The ground-state ZnH molecules are the product of the Zn( 4 'P,) +H2 reaction. Similar results were also obtained in the Zn(4 3P,) /DL system.
The population-weighted averages of the cross sections for the quenching of Zn(4 3PI) by Hz and Dz were determined to be 28X lo-l6 and 20x 10eL6 cm', respectively.
