Abstract
The influence of the local environment on the electronic and magnetic properties of Co atom between Ti layers is presented., using (i) a layer model and (ii) a chain model. The effect of surface on the electronic and magnetic properties of Co‐Ti system and the magnetic properties of the chain of the cobalt atoms between titanium layers is studied by ab‐initio LMTO method. The results indicate that the cobalt between titanium layers has a small magnetic moment. In the chain of cobalt atoms between titanium layers the magnetic moment of Co is strongly reduced near the titanium layer. (© 2006 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim)
