An analysis of the electron spin resonance of hln 2\* in frozen methanoI is presented. The broadened, asymmetric lineshape is shown to be due to inhomogeneous broadenin, 0 caused by combined second-and third-order effects of randomly distributed zero-field splittings in the range of 80-15C G.

โฆ Synopsis
The distribution of the zero-field splitting sites experienced by the Mn 2+ ion in frozen methanol is investigated from the electron spin resonance lineshape at law magnetic field.
Following the study of the manganese ion as a paramagnetic probe for structural investigation in glasses, we report some results which improve the previous conclusions obtained by Tsay et al. [ 11. The ESR spectra of Mn 2+ in glasses are conveniently explained by using the spin hamiltonian
