β¦ Synopsis
The electron photodetachment (PD) spectra of the molecular anions of sulfur hexafluoride (SF,), peffluoromethylcyclohexane (C,F,,), perfluorocyclohexane (C,F,,), tram+perfluorodecaline (C,aF,s), and cis-perfhtorodecaline (&F,s) at 150Β°C in nitrogen buffer gas at atmospheric pressure are reported. For all of these, PD was not detectable in the spectral range from 450 to 1200 nm. Relatively small PD cross sections ( < 0.02 A*) were observed over portions of the spectral range from 300 to 450 nm. The onsets of PD for SF,-and C,Fi exceed the known electron afftnities of SF6 and C,F,, by more than 2 eV, supporting previous suggestions that the stable geometries of both of these negative ions differ considerably from those of their parent molecules.
