✦ Synopsis

Electron mobibties m dense etbane gas are inthpreted m terms of a multxple scatteilng model, whereby the work fimc hon duft V. IS used for the energy tit mside the gas. By using gsphase momentum transfer cross section, the chauge III densty-normalned mobility with density at 36°C can be described semiquantitatwely.

Iiqwds have been studied extensrvely in the last fii teen years. A recent trend has been to extend the measurements over a wider range of experimental conditions. The drrft mobility pe and the conducting state energy Vu have been measured in supercntical methane, ethane and a few other hydrocarbons [l-4].

The salient features emerging from these measurements are (i) the presence of maxuna and minima m the density-nom-rahzed mobrhty @V in the inrermediate density region as in hquid rare gases, and (it) the presence of minim a in VO in a srmilar dens@ region. Rydberg absorption spectra of methyl iodide, CH,I, in hydrogen-argon binary mixtures of density (2.16-3.14) x 10" cm-3 are reported. The Rydberg energy shifts, normalized to a total density of 1 X 1021 cmm3, vary linearly with the mole fraction of the binary mixture. Reservations concerning this lin
