β¦ Synopsis
Microstructures of superconducting oxides, YBa2Cu306+0 and Bi, Pb-Sr-Cu-O system, are studied by transmission electron microscopy.
The former compounds with O. 30~0 ~O. 85 all consist of two kinds of thin parallel plates having different 2(b-a)/(b+a) values of ~O% and 3%~4%, while the ordinary orthorhombic twin structure with 2(b-a)/(b+a) ~2% results at 8=0.90. These microstructures can be explained as resulting from a thermoelastic martensitic transformation. In the Bi, Pb-Sr-Cu-O system, monophasic compositions of Bi2-x+yPbxSr2-yCu1+y/406+0 with 0~x~0.5 and 0.1<y~0.5 are investigated. The modulation is found to completely disappear in a narrow range around the Pb solubility limit in the Bi-poor side of XLO.4 and y=0.125.
The modulation free composi tion with 0 ~0 behaves as a superconductor with Tc~14K.
