โฆ Synopsis
The mass spectrometric behaviour of some new 2-allyloxy-6-phenyl-4-trifluoromethyl pyridines and Nallyl-6-phenyl-4-trifluoromethyl-2(1H)-pyridones have been studied with the aid of metastable ion, collision induced dissociation and high resolution techniques. The major fragmentations observed in the O-allyl and N-allyl compounds involve the losses of H ร , CH 3 ร , CHO ร and C 6 H 5 ร from the molecular ion. The O-allyl and N-allyl compounds can be readily distinguished by the marked differences in the abundances of various diagnostic ions. A McLafferty rearrangement in both the compounds leads to an ion of m/z 239, for which a 4-trifluoromethyl-6-phenyl-2-pyridone (4) structure has been proposed. This has been further supported by a CID study using the reference compound 4.
