✦ Synopsis
Abstraet--Trans-Stilbene and maleic anhydride in THF or acetone solution undergo copolymerization upon u.v. irradiation to give soluble copolymers having an alternating structure. Even at --78 °, no cycloadducts are formed. Several photosensitizers had no effect on the rate of propagation, with the exception of benzil which generates free radicals upon irradiation. The copolymers obtained in the presence of benzil are crosslinked.
