✦ Synopsis
Tandem mass spectrometry has been applied to solve the question as to whether stable ethane dications can be generated by electron-impact ionization. A reaction sequence of charge exchange followed by collision-induced dissociation (electron-captureinduced-decomposition-type reactions) was performed on m/z 15 ions of ethane in order to probe the amount of hydrogens incorporated in the initial doubly charged cations.
